Labouchere Blackjack Strategy

Betting systems are a great way of bringing a sense of control to the otherwise out of control feeling that gambling can sometimes provide.

If you take Blackjack for example, it is often very easy to get carried away with the excitement of the action and before long you cannot remember if you are up, down or what the actual damage or profit actually is. Using betting systems when you're playing online at a site that will allow you to enjoy yourself but also create a form of a record that allows greater awareness while at the table.

One famous betting system that Blackjack players often adopt is called the Labouchere betting system. It is a negative progression system that comes in many different variations.  For this article we will focus on the simplest version of the Labouchere betting system.

Players begin by writing down a series of set numbers (the simplest being 1,2,3,4,5 although the order does not have to be sequential). Each number in the sequence you choose represents a betting amount and in the Labouchere system you select the first and last numbers of your sequence and that is your first betting amount.
So taking the example of 1,2,3,4,5 the first bet would be 6 units (1+5).

If you win the bet then you cross the numbers 1 + 5 out of your sequence and now your new betting amount becomes 6 (2+4). If you lose the bet then you add the total onto the end of your sequence and start again. So once again using the example of 1,2,3,4,5, if your original bet of 6 units (1+5) was a loss you would now add the number 6 to the end of the sequence making your next bet 7 (1+6).

It may sound confusing at first, but once you get to grips with it, you'll find it extremely helpful when you're playing online blackjack.
